Albania, Kosovo to strengthen cooperation
TIRANA, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Prime ministers of Albania and Kosovo said on Thursday that they would strengthen cooperation in energy and education in the future.
Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci is on a two-day official visit to Albania, his first since Kosovo declared unilateral independence from Serbia on Feb. 17.
Thaci and his Albanian counterpart Sali Berisha agreed to closely cooperate in the energy field and looked at the possibility of jointly building a thermal power plant in Kosovo.
The two also discussed the cooperation in education, by which Berisha said Albania has much to offer. Ethnic Albanian majority account for more than 90 percent of Kosovo's 2 million people.
Berisha and Thaci said they were committed to fighting with zero tolerance against organized crime, which tarnishes the international images of Albania and Kosovo.
The two prime ministers said that they would turn Albania and Kosovo into factors of peace, stability, development and regional and European integration.
Kosovo, a southern Serbian province, unilaterally declared independence on Feb. 17. It has been recognized by more than 40 counties, but its independence is vehemently opposed by Serbia and Russia.
